COSTANZA - Sir Taki
The site-specific installation Costanza stages a continuous tension between self-destruction and possible rebirth. Within Artphilein’s Focus exhibition space, black-and-white photographic collages evoke a world devastated by power, a power that annihilates humanity, and the dramatic condition of the human being reduced to an impotent spectator. At the centre stands the fragile yet irreducible presence of a newborn girl holding up the world. A humble shoot on a new, fertile earth, the sculpture, with its purple-red texture, acts as a filter that keeps alive a final hope. The collages unfold like a flow of frames that echo and oppose one another, with violent contrasts of shadow and light recalling the Baroque dialectic of pain and wonder, necessary to rekindle the attention of an eye dulled to the truth of things. The metal structure visible from the outside and the hanging fabric depicting the coloured seats of a cinema invite the viewer to take part in what is happening inside the exhibition space as an event in the making, with a plot that is continually taking shape and renewing itself.
