CENSURA is a new exhibition and research space that investigates one of the most subtle and pervasive dynamics of the art system: the artist’s self-censorship, understood as an invisible process that permeates the idea, the production, and the very possibility of showing oneself.

Photography is the central device of Artphilein, understood not only as a medium but as a tool for observation and thought. Around it, CENSURA builds an open dialogue with all the languages of contemporary art—video, installation, painting, sculpture, sound, light, writing, music, and performance—welcoming hybrid and experimental practices.
Rather than focusing on the finished work, CENSURA addresses what precedes it: doubt, renunciation, negotiation with the social, institutional, and economic context. The annual program consists of exhibitions, interventions, and an archive of video interviews that collect artists’ reflections on their relationship with limits and freedom of expression.

The first exhibition, opening on May 30, features the artist MATETE (Pordenone, Italy) and inaugurates the space’s curatorial program, introducing the public to research on the theme of self-censorship.
