Open Lab, in collaboration with Focus, presents a project by Ras Sankara Agboka, one of the artists featured at Harmattan – Togo Photo Festival.

The visual and performing artist Kossi Aféli Agboka, known as Ras Sankara, positions his own body as the central medium of his practice. Through immersive and site-specific interventions, he foregrounds sociopolitical issues, provoking dialogue and reflection within public spaces, often taking to the streets as his stage.
In his performance “Scars and Blood Memory”, Ras Sankara reflects: “Memories, like scars, are forged in moments of struggle, transformation, and survival. They form a kaleidoscope of emotions and reminiscences: joyful memories alongside others marked by the shadows of slavery, colonization, and discrimination. The body becomes the vessel of these living memories—memories that shape us and define who we are.” Here, the corporeal form becomes both witness and archive, embodying collective histories and personal narratives in a performative language.
