IUZZA. Goliarda Sapienza
IUZZA: Goliarda Sapienza by Francesca Todde
Between 2017 and 2024, Francesca Todde embarked on an artistic and visual journey retracing the life of Goliarda Sapienza, Sicilian writer, exploring the places where she lived, her archives, and the atmospheres that nourished her literary work. With the guidance and support of Angelo Pellegrino, Sapienza’s companion, Francesca Todde has created a poetic imagery interweaving Sicilian landscapes, biographical memories, and mythological resonances. The project, which also takes shape in a book published for Sapienza's centenary, evokes an intimate and visionary dialogue with the author of The Art of Joy, the posthumous novel that established Sapienza as one of the most significant voices in twentieth-century Italian literature. With IUZZA – the writer’s childhood nickname – Francesca Todde offers an interior and sensorial journey where images become traces, invisible presences, and animated landscapes, restoring to the public the evocative power and relevance of a unique literary figure. The exhibition is part of the Swiss Photomonth program.
