Knowing Thunder

KNOWING THUNDER: Rebecca Bowring explores a subtle and pervasive form of violence—silent, often invisible—embedded in daily gestures and difficult to name, yet deeply recognizable.
Rebecca Bowring’s work stands out for its ability to merge visual delicacy with thematic intensity, offering images that unfold with quiet power and emotional resonance. Through an intimate and evocative photographic language, Bowring constructs a visual narrative composed of fragments, subtle signs, and visual whispers that become testimony. Her photographs, like small pieces of personal and collective memory, emerge gradually, revealing an emotional reality in which isolation, resistance, and the slow reclamation of the self intertwine. The exhibition unfolds as a non-linear story, a constellation of images that invite reflection and stillness, creating a continuous dialogue between what is visible and what remains hidden. Rather than imposing fixed meanings, the photographs open up spaces of interpretation, allowing viewers to recognize their own silences, their own wounds, and their own paths to resilience. In Knowing Thunder, Bowring’s artistic practice moves consciously between introspection and witness, poetic sensibility and ethical engagement. Hers is a photography that listens and reveals, that documents without spectacle, that embraces vulnerability and transforms it into strength. Accompanying the exhibition is the latest title in the Cahier series, published by Artphilein Editions, which brings together critical texts and images related to the project. The volume serves not only as an extension of the visual narrative but also as a space for theoretical reflection, where words and images come together to convey the complexity of the artist’s work. The project is presented in collaboration with Lenzburg Fotofestival.
