Artphilein Foundation presents Closer, a photographic project by Alessandro Trapezio inspired by the celebrated series by Dino Pedriali dedicated to Pier Paolo Pasolini.
In 1975, shortly before his death, Pasolini entrusted Pedriali with a series of photographs intended to accompany Petrolio, his most complex and unfinished novel. Those images, among the most intimate ever taken of the Italian intellectual, reveal a vulnerable yet self-aware body, suspended between desire and introspection.
With Closer, Trapezio revisits this legacy through a contemporary lens. The protagonist is Gaia Ginevra Giorgi, poet and performer, portrayed in her intimacy while reading a poetry collection. The photographer observes without intervening, letting gestures and postures emerge naturally, until Giorgi’s gaze meets the camera. In that moment, the voyeuristic dynamic is overturned: the subject becomes conscious, engaging in an equal dialogue with the viewer.
The exhibition resonates with Pier Paolo Pasolini and Maria Callas. Cronaca di un amore, curated by Silvia De Laude and Giuseppe Garrera, hosted during the same period at the Artphilein Library.
