Printed Visions: A Photobook Workshop for African Photographers
with Anne Nwakalor, Founding Editor No! Wahala Magazine, and Giulia Brivio, Chief Curator Artphilein

What is a photo-book and how to create a dummy photo-book or a zine?

We will delve into a brief history of the photo-book, providing context and background for our exploration.
We will travel into the publishing and zine world through various examples and case studies. This introduction aims to provide an overview of the possibilities within publishing practices for photographers, including a guide to festivals and awards.

Participants are invited to illustrate their projects and to work on the sequence and narratives of their contents. The goal is to develop a final book or zine design for each project. At the end candidates will present and discuss their work, receiving feedback and insights.

Among the five projects presented by the participants: Ziad Naitaddi, Laura Osare, Fawaz Oyedeji, Mahefa Dimbiniaina Randrianarivelo, Sara Younes, Artphilein and No! Wahala Magazine selected “At a Peter Pan Moment” by Younes to be published by Artphilein Editions in 2025.
